Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. When is my application due? Applications for the Doctoral Institute of Philosophic Studies and Art programs are due by February 1 and are considered for the fall term only. Applications for all other master's and certificate programs can be submitted at any time. We recommend that prospective students complete their applications by July 15 for admission to the fall term, November 15 for admission to the spring term, and April 15 for admission to the summer term. Offers of admission are made on a rolling basis, which means that applications are processed as they are received, with priority given to the applications for the upcoming semester.
  2. How should I send in my application materials? It is helpful to the admissions team for applicants to first submit the online application form and then send in transcripts and letters of recommendation. Your review file is started with the submission of the online application form and is completed when we receive your additional materials via mail or email.
  3. Whom should I ask to write my letters of recommendation? Your recommenders' contact information will be collected during the online application process. Each recommender will receive an email from UD requesting that they upload their letter of recommendation through a secure application portal. Letters of recommendation may come from professors, supervisors, pastors, lay leaders, etc. A recommendation from your supervisor is required for Master of Catholic School Leadership applicants.
  4. How should I submit my letters of recommendation? Letters of recommendation may be submitted by persons recommending you by mail or email. The persons recommending you may email the letter using their institutional email address (to ensure authenticity) to bcollins@ngskmc-eis.net or mail the letter directly to Braniff Graduate School Admissions, University of Dallas, 1845 E. Northgate, Irving, TX 75062-4736. Letters of recommendation sent directly from the applicant will not be accepted.
  5. Do I need to take the GRE? Please refer to the requirements listed for each program. If required, submit scores from the General Test portion of the GRE, which have not been taken more than five years prior to the date of the application. The University of Dallas school code for the GRE is 6868.
  6. Do I need to take a GRE Subject Test? No.
  7. What is a statement of purpose? The statement of purpose (750 to 1000 words) should include the applicant's program-specific reasons for pursuing graduate study at the University of Dallas, a brief history of the applicant's intellectual development, and an indication of the applicant's academic goals.
  8. What should I use for my writing sample? A writing sample is an essay (or portion of an essay) written for a university course in the proposed field of major study. If a sample from a university course is not available, a more current example of writing can be used. The writing sample should not exceed 6,000 words.
  9. As an applicant to the M.A. Program in Art, how should I submit my portfolio? Applicants to the M.A. Program in Art are required to submit a portfolio of at least 10 representative works. Include a list of each work in your portfolio, which includes a thumbnail and identification with title, date, and media. The portfolio and listing should be one pdf file and uploaded to your application.
  10. How should I submit my transcripts? Official transcripts are required from all colleges attended and must be submitted directly from the institution to the Office of the Braniff Graduate School Admissions. (We are unable to accept transcripts from applicants.) Most often, transcripts can be obtained by contacting the registrar's office of the institution. Transcripts can be mailed to Braniff Graduate School Admissions, University of Dallas, 1845 E. Northgate, Box 722, Irving, TX 75062-4736, emailed to admiss@ngskmc-eis.net, or submitted via an online transmission portal (e.g., Parchment or eScrip-Safe). Please note that students who took classes from a college or university outside of the United States may need to submit additional documentation.
